Aghdam’s football clubs
The sports organizations of Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan was established after World War II. Football teams have been organized in the 50-es of the XX century.
Football team of Aghdam region was founded in 1951. The history of present "Karabakh" club begins from that date.
The region’s team has successfully represented Azerbaijan in the past, in the city of Sadovsky of Odessa region. Following it club from Aghdam won the 2nd place in cup completion held among 38 clubs cup after passing to final in the Patarburnari region.
Acting under the name of “Mahsul” in domestic championship of Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic in 1966, suspended its activity after two years. Being restored at the end of 70-es it was named as "Shafag" and later “Cooperative". 
In the history of football "Karabakh" team has a special place. In spite of the heavy financial and infrastructure constraints after Armenian occupation Aghdam football players won the first titles in 1993. This year the "Karabakh" won the gold medals of the second national championship of independent Azerbaijan and the country cups. In 1997, the club repeating the same achievement a club wrote his name in 1999 as the first club passed to Euro cups phase in the history of Azerbaijan (within the framework of the UEFA Intertoto Cup, it defeated Israel's powerful "Makkabi Haifa" club).
Since 2009 "Karabakh" holds most of home games at the Olympic stadium in Guzanli of Aghdam region being under the control of Azerbaijan. At present, the "Karabakh" football club is one of the most powerful clubs at premier league of Azerbaijan. It represents Azerbaijan and its Nagorno-Karabakh region at the Euro cups with honor.   
In different years the honor of Aghdam football has kept the following athletes: Huseyn Akhmedov, Nizami Gurbanov, Rasim Aliyev, Elkhan Guliyev, Allahverdi Bagirov, Adil Asgarov, Elbrus Abbasov, Adil Nadirov, Nazim Mehdiyev, Shahin Rustamov, Sardar Abbasov, Vagif Huseynov, Rasim Mammadov, Ramiz Shahmammadov, Israfil Aliyev, Sattar Aliyev, Nizami Aliyev, Elmar Huseynov, Enver Akhundov, M. Huseynov, Jamaleddin Aliyev, Tabriz Hasanov.

"Shusha" (Shusha) football club
After granting of autonomy to Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, as in other areas of compact living of Azerbaijanis no conditions were created for the development of physical culture and sport in Shusha. During that period in the town like Shusha there was not a single sports ground, swimming pool, wrestling hall, stadium, etc. No championships were arranged in Shusha of any sport kind. All the achievements achieved only at the expense of ability of young people and athletes self. 
After the occupation of Armenia Shusha’s athletes also continued to work in the different regions.
In June of 2009, "Shusha 09" (where "09" is the year of establishment of club) football club was founded. In September 2010 the team changed the name and renamed as "Shusha".
"Shusha" football club participates in 2010-2011 national football championship season at 1st league.
 "Shusha" team's temporary base is in "Adliyya (Justice)" stadium, and the club holds home games there, too.

"Karabakh" (Khankendi) football club
"Karabakh" football club was established in 1927 in the city of Khankendi. First name was "Dynamo". Since 1974 it was named as "Karabakh". It became a winner of Football championship the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic in 1977. In 1950 and 1986, took part in the USSR Cup competitions.
Later Armenian community of the region completely made the club Armenian and banned Azerbaijanis to play at this club
