The 14th annual meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council
A statement on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
Brussels, December 5, 2006

Reaching an agreement of parties on the basic principles of settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with efforts of Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group and with the support of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office as a result of negotiations between the parties during 2006 had inspired us.
We welcome the support expressed to these efforts by leaders of G8 at its Summit held in St. Petersburg in July of this year.
We are insisting to convince you to increase efforts that soonest final agreement in next year on the basic principles by the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan to be reached.
We call parties to increase cooperation to stop fires and to carry out the ecological operation with the help of the international community to eliminate the consequences of these fires. These measures may be important steps to restore confidence between the parties. The OSCE is ready to assist.
We also express our ongoing support to Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office and its mission in the region, especially in the Environmental Assessment Mission and monitoring of the activities for observing the cease-fire. We regret that from time to time incidents along the front line resulting in the loss of human life continues and we call on both parties to respect the cease-fire regime.
